If you notice a large increase in the traffic to your site and if after you examine the visitor statistics it turns out that it comes from areas all over the world or from other web servers, your site is more than likely being attacked by an automatic bot. Those programs go through random websites seeking to log in to their admin area by using a brute-force attack or to leave spam comments underneath every article where this type of an option is provided. Regrettably, this is something relatively frequent lately, but if you know the IP addresses from which the attacks come, you'll be able to block them, so the bots shall not be able to access your Internet site in any way. Of course, you can block IPs even if you allow only people from specific countries to access your website.
IP Blocking in Shared Hosting
If you get a shared hosting from us, you will be able to see in depth traffic stats for all of your Internet sites and if you notice that many of the visits to each of them are not legitimate, you can block the IP addresses that have produced the most traffic by using our IP Blocking tool. The interface is quite simple - select the needed domain or subdomain from a drop-down list, then enter the IP address that you want to block and save the change. All of the addresses that you have blacklisted shall appear in the very same section of the CP, so that you can always remove any of them and allow it to access your website again. You are able to block whole IP ranges through the tool too - you just need to leave one or two octets from the address blank. For example, entering 1.2.3. will block all 254 IPs from 1.2.3.1 to 1.2.3.255.
